New production plant for membrane filtration technology in Saxony-Anhalt

LANXESS built a new chemical plant at its site in Bitterfeld-Wolfen(Germany), for producing reverse-osmosis membrane elements, which are marketed under the brand name Lewabrane®.

With this the specialty chemicals group’s moved into a new segment of the water treatment business. The opening took place in September 2011.

The company  invests a total of around EUR 30 million in this pioneering project. The State of Saxony-Anhalt supports this project by up to EUR 8 million.

This project creates 200 new jobs at the Bitterfeld site. An area totaling some 4,000 square meters had been set aside for the creation of high-tech laboratories, logistics areas, offices and a new, state-of-the-art production facility.

„The excellent infrastructure and the intensive Research and Development-Program that we had established in the region in cooperation with universities and research institutes in the region, underlines that Germany proves its economic power through know-how and high-performance technologies,” said LANXESS CEO Dr. Axel C. Heitmann.

LANXESS already has a highly modern production with the best infrastructure in Bitterfeld (Germany), where Lewatit® ion exchange resins are produced.
